What is Ratio Simplifier?
Simplifying a ratio means dividing both sides by their greatest common divisor until no smaller whole numbers describe the same proportion. The pair 1920:1080 and 16:9 describe exactly the same shape, but 16:9 is instantly recognisable and comparable. This simplifier accepts whole numbers, decimals and different magnitudes: 3440:1440 reduces to 43:18, and 1.37:1 reduces to 137:100. Simplified ratios are what you put in spec sheets, project settings and documentation because they are the shortest exact description of the shape.

When a simplified ratio is already famous
Many simplified ratios have names of their own: 16:9 is widescreen HD, 4:3 was standard-definition television, 3:2 is the 35 mm film frame, 1:1 is square and 21:9 is the marketing name for ultrawide monitors. Simplifying an unfamiliar resolution often reveals it belongs to a family you already know - 1366×768 looks arbitrary until you simplify it to 683:384, which sits close to the 16:9 family but is not exactly in it.
